Like many self-employed people, Tony Lee from Ellesmere Port ran a successful business, but struggled with the book-keeping. Determined to face this problem, Tony is now taking steps to improve his accountancy and administration skills with the help of nextstep advisers from West Cheshire College.
Tony, who was diagnosed with dyslexia five years ago, took the first step to improving his skills after the death of his mother on whom he had always relied upon to help with the reading required to run his business. He attended a basic numeracy and literacy course at Ellesmere Port Library where he was put in contact with nextstep adviser Lesley Coombes. It was here that he learned of the extent of support available to him.
Since his initial meeting with Lesley, Tony’s motivation and ambition has increased tremendously and he is now receiving continued support from the Learning Support unit at the Ellesmere Port campus of West Cheshire College.
He has also enrolled on training courses to develop his basic skills, and with continued guidance and advice from nextstep advisers, is working towards recognised qualifications.
nextstep adviser, Lesley Coombes, says “Since Tony was diagnosed as being dyslexic, he has shown total commitment and enthusiasm towards his studies. He is continually developing his knowledge and skills, and is using his learning to get more out of life.”
